REVIEW (Imperfect: Career, Love & Scale)

1

Imperfect: Career, Love & Scale based on the novel Imperfect: A Journey to Self-Acceptance by Ernest’s wife Meira Anastasia. Ernest made a new film with the issue of body shaming and insecurity. Tells the story of a woman played by Jessica Mila who has a less attractive body, her posture is fat, her skin is black, and her hair is curly, she is also a hobby of eating since she was a child while Rara's sister is very different. She has an ideal body, beautiful, white skin and straight hair. This difference makes Rara's mother give Rara advice for dieting.
Imperfect became the best film at the end of 2019 because conflict and stories were closely related to daily life as well as messages shown about body shaming and insecure. This film presents a serious drama but is balanced with comedy.

Change Insecure To Be Grateful
Body shaming happens very often and can come from family, friends and social media. There are many examples of body shaming shown by Ernest in this film. This film tells that body shaming is very painful. Even the size of a person's success can be based on appearance.
But even though Rara has imperfections she has a lover (Reza Rahardian) who is faithful and accepts who she is and she has a loyal friend (Shareefa Daanish) in her office . Here we can take the positive side where God is very just.
In this film Ernest shows the insecure side of each cast. The sense of insecure in this film makes everyone see happiness from a narrower side. Examples like Lulu who insecure only by seeing netizen comments on social media. Even though, we know is that she is described as the center of the spotlight because of her beauty.

A Drama Wrapped With Comedy
The drama in this film really makes the audience's feelings go up and down because there is an element of comedy played by the Komika-Komika invited to join. Comedy in this film is not boring. Jokes with narural style of speech like not acting. There are comics such as Uus, Kiki Saputri, Zsazsa Utari, Aci Resti, Neneng Wulandari who appear in one frame with jokes that appear simultaneously adding color to this film.

Jessica Mila and Reza Rahardia's Acting
For Jessica Milla and Reza Rahardian's acting there is no doubt. Their abilities are very much appreciated. The interaction between them feels adorable and natural flowing with the romance in the film. Reza showed his quality acting when arguing with Jessica. Even Jessica showed her totality by raising her weight to make it look fat in this film.
